Integration of Technology

As technology plays a greater role in our society, the staff at Royal School acknowledges the need to familiarize and educate our students accordingly. The following are the skills taught by grade levels:

Grade K. Student..
* feels confident using the computer as a resource and tool;
* uses control keys (spacebar and shift) and menu commands;
* inserts and removes disk;
* double clicks to open software programs;
* learns about parts of the computer;
* knows and identifies letter and numbers on the keyboard;
* observes teacher type and use E-mail;
* views (with teacher) Internet sites.

Grade 1. Student..
* uses software programs and CD’s to build and reinforce skills;
* identifies and describes basic computer operations;
* knows and identifies Input and Output peripherals;
* uses shift, tab, spacebar, delete and return keys independently;
* opens and closes programs independently.

Grade 2. Student..
* states the importance of technology in their lives;
* is familiar with using two hands on the keyboard;
* uses key functions: shift, delete, tab, return;
* uses word processing for creative writing (centers, changes style, size and font, saves and uses spell check);
* with teacher guidance, uses Internet to research units of study;
* with teacher supervision, sends E-mail messages to classes on campus and to community leaders;
* practices nettiquette.

Grade 3. Student..
* attempts to use correct fingering on keyboard;
* knows common uses of technology in daily life;
* uses E-mail and Internet with teacher supervision;
* utilizes computer in connection with assigned projects, i.e. Children as Authors, Inventions, etc.;
* practices nettiquette.

Grade 4. Student..
* practices correct keyboarding skills;
* E-mails keypals with minimal teacher supervision;
* uses word processing to create books, graphs and draws;
* uses selected programs independently (Accelerated Reader);
* researches using CD’s and Internet;
* begins to create multi-media projects and other products;
* practices nettiquette.

Grade 5. Student..
* uses common input and output devices efficiently and effectively;
* uses word processing for school projects;
* uses internet and E-mail for research projects with minimal teacher supervision;
* communicates and publishes projects for audiences inside and outside the classroom;
* uses proper nettiquette at all times.
